Hunter Gather Cook

Custom type and brand identity that captures the wild spirit of foraging and fire cooking. Like many who choose to explore living a life off the land, Nick Weston’s off-grid story is one that may seem eccentric on the surface. But his unique personality doesn’t serve to unnerve those who experience the way he delivers skills and knowledge of the wild. The mantra ‘respect is everything’ is firmly rooted in the brand and seasoned across everyone who spends time at Hunter Gather Cook. We offered a steady hand to craft a story of the expertise and consideration needed to source, prepare and share food as nature intended.

Hidden in the depths of the Sussex countryside, Hunter Gather Cook’s team of fire specialists, game chefs and expert foragers, headed by an accomplished survival expert, needed a brand identity that matched their prestige and growing popularity amongst a loyal pack of in-the-know celebrity fans, global organisations and worldwide news publications.

Having had the privilege to experience the Hunter Gather Cook offering with Nick and his team, it was clear that the previous brand wasn't representative of the quality and refinement they extract from their foraged food. Nick and his whole team craft and blend the most incredible raw ingredients to deliver incredible quality food that's both ethically sourced and environmentally low impact.

We needed to carve a distinguishable mark that was capable of immediately signposting Hunter Gather Cook, so we crafted an unmistakable custom type and logo mark, complete with axe features and cuts. Inspired by the versatility of the trusty, time-honoured and original hand-held device, we placed the fundamental tool of outdoor craft at the heart of the brand — cutting to the chase with a new axe serif font.

The Hunter Gather Cook team’s deep knowledge of the wild was dissected and scattered across the brand in the form of detailed, hand-drawn sketches of animals, plants and natural elements – reminiscent of vintage botanist and zoologist drawings – revealing the detailed level of expertise on offer to potential customers. We also enabled Hunter Gather Cook’s personality to cut through the brand language with a verbal identity which snared the ethos ‘respect is everything’, illuminating the mindset of the outdoor team.

Through the creation of a website complete with the newly positioned brand identity, we were able to streamline the course booking process, enabling bookings to be managed more easily and provide the opportunity for people to instantly get a taste of the Hunter Gather Cook experience through brand language.
