We’ll always have a soft spot for our adopted county, East Sussex. So, when local league football club Seaford Town approached us for advice about their brand and marketing strategy it gave us a chance to do more than just share our knowledge. Instead, we’ve undertaken a commitment to support them as a way of giving back to our community.
Over a number of years, the club had suffered from a decline in revenue, spectators and results. But with a new panel of energised and enthusiastic committee members, the club was in the mood to shake things up. We bonded over our shared belief of the value that a local club can bring to its community – a physical sporting outlet for children and adults alike, a beating heart of the town that unites generations and builds local pride. In today’s fractured world we can’t afford to let these beacons of local spirit fade away and so in the space of a few months, we’ve helped reinvigorate a club’s fortunes and popularity.
The first step was giving the club a refreshed identity that represented who they are and where they want to go. Their old hornet logo replaced with a new emblem that creates a link to the town’s original crest and proudly represents the historic coastal status of Seaford as a Cinque Port member. A ship braving the stormy seas was inspired by the Latin motto from the crest – E VENTIS VIRES’ – which translates as ‘From the wind, strength’.
These themes of strength and pride have been carried over into all of the new marketing materials. A custom typeface adorns all of the club’s new posters, signage and programme covers, with bold, unifying messaging that communicates a transformation in the clubs appetite for success. A team playing with pride and passion also deserves a kit to shine in, which is why we created a partnership with sportswear giant Puma on the club’s behalf – something unique for a club of their size. Their new kit features an exclusive design while a smart deal also saves them money compared to previous supplier costs.
Seaford Town Football Club is proving that for some people, local league football is just as important as the top flight and with a fighting spirit in the hearts, we’re supporting the club to achieve true local-hero status.
Sea, Sun and Football is a perfect mix for creativity and community collaboration. Working with my local football club, and using our skills to benefit the local community is fantastic fun and it's a real passion project for us.
